What happened?

It was the first game back in half a year for the Lions but it ended in a narrow home defeat against frenemies, Leicester Wildecats.

We certainly took the game to our opponents and had a very dominant opening 25 minutes, mixing our attacks to try and get an advantage.

However, it was the visitors who got the first spoils when they tapped home a goal following a communication error at the back.

Despite that set-back we continued to push for a break through. Sean M’s twisting run and clever pull back nearly gave us an equaliser but James couldn’t get enough of his boot around it to convert the chance. Shortly after, James had another chance smartly saved by the Wildecats’ keeper to frustrate our efforts.

Goalkeeper Pij made a vital save in the closing minutes of the first-half to keep the game in reach after the interval.

A bright start to the second-half with Sean M coming close to pegging us back level but his header was saved. He was denied again moments later when his low shot was blocked by the advancing keeper, but Robbie was on hand to fire home an equaliser.

Leicester regained the lead when a whipped cross was headed past Austin.

A great high-press nearly got us level again after we dispossessed the Wildecats in their 18-yard box, but Shaun L’s rifled finished was judged to be offside.

Leicester doubled their lead with a quick counter attack that caught us flat-footed at the back.

The game had a frenzied finish; James met Treaders’ corner with his head at the front post to make it 2-3 – but the whistle blew to end the game before we could find another goal.
