That classic football cliché; a game of two halves, pretty much sums up the friendly rip to Birmingham.
Blaze started the game very quickly and soon found themselves 2-0 up after considerable pressure. We lost the battles on the ground and in the air, giving the opposition time and space on the ball.
A lack of confidence started to show, with Birmingham making the most of this by scoring five goals before half-time.
HT: Birmingham Blaze 5-0 Nottingham Lions
Significant changes were made after the break. Craig J and Rob C shored up the defence and gave us some much needed steel. Pij also made some fine stops throughout the game to limit the damage.
Asher tested Blaze’s defence and won us important set-pieces, whilst Damian helped us break down their attacks in the middle. His ‘swerving’ low free-kick found its way under the ‘keeper to give us a reward for an improved second-half performance.
We had a stronger finish, the energy and work-rate was much more positive. After the break, we played with confidence, composure and resolved..

Man of the Match = Rob C: He made an instant impact on his arrival. He wasn’t afraid to get stuck in and he helped stop a few Blaze attacks.
We will be using training over the coming weeks to work on the things that didn’t quite work out in the last couple of matches.
